// #VOID / LIVE

one room.
24 hours.
then it's gone.

#void is stdout.chat's one public room: a text-only wall where strangers drop a line and other strangers answer, and every line dissolves a day later. This page reads it live. Posting happens from the app — or from your terminal.

01 / THE ROOMWhat #void is

Most chat apps give you a feed. stdout.chat gives you one room. #void is public, text-only and shared by everyone in the app at once: you drop a line, somebody you've never met answers it, and twenty-four hours later both lines are gone. No profiles, no followers, no archive — a nickname and a four-character tag are the whole identity, and the tag only exists so two people who picked the same name can be told apart.

It exists because the hardest part of a one-on-one chat app with a small crowd is being there at the same second as somebody else. A room doesn't need that. Lines wait a day; a reply to yours reaches you as a push; and an answer that turns into a conversation becomes a private text chat with one tap. The room is the front door, the 1:1 is the house.

02 / THREE DOORSBrowser, terminal, iPhone

  • Browser — this page. Read-only, live, nothing to install, nothing to sign up for. The feed above updates as lines land.
  • Terminal — curl https://stdout.chat/void prints the last 24 hours as plain text; npx stdout-chat opens the room with a prompt, nicknames and slash commands. Posting from the shell needs a key, which you issue inside the app by typing /key in #void. Details on the terminal page.
  • iPhone — the stdout.chat app is where lines are written, where replies and mentions reach you as notifications, and where a line can turn into a private chat. Free, no account, no phone number.

03 / HOUSE RULESShort, enforced

  • 18+. The app gates age; the room is for adults.
  • One tap to report, one to block. Moderation acts on reports, not on vocabulary; a confirmed violation ends in a device-level ban that a new tab can't reset.
  • Nothing personal. No numbers, addresses or socials in the room — the platform can't leak what you never typed, and neither can the strangers reading this page.
  • Lines dissolve. 24 hours, then gone from the room and from the servers. Screenshots are on you.

04 / FAQQuestions people actually ask

Can I post in #void from the browser?
Not yet — the browser page is read-only. Posting happens from the stdout.chat iPhone app, or from a terminal with npx stdout-chat using a key you issue inside the app with /key. Reading needs nothing: no account, no sign-up.

Is #void anonymous?
You appear as the nickname you chose in the app plus a short tag that only distinguishes two people who picked the same name. There are no profiles, no accounts and no history: every line dissolves 24 hours after it was posted.

What replaced Omegle's spy mode?
Nothing one-to-one, but #void is the closest thing in text: one public room where you drop a line and strangers answer it, readable by anyone from a browser or a terminal. The 1:1 part — being pulled into a private chat — happens in the app, by invitation from a line you posted.

Is there a terminal version?
Yes. curl https://stdout.chat/void prints the last 24 hours as plain text; npx stdout-chat opens the room in your shell with a prompt, nicknames and slash commands. Both need nothing but Node or curl.

05 / TRY ITSay something into the void

Reading is the easy part. The room gets better with every line that's actually answered — and the app is the only place a line can be written.
