stdout.chat is a free text-only chat app for iOS that matches you with people who share your interests — no video, no camera, no sign-up, no phone number.

You pick up to five interests, and the app pairs you with someone who shares at least one of them — so every conversation starts with common ground. There are no photos, no followers, and no feeds: just two people typing. Every chat ends with a session grade, and good conversations move you up a 16-tier rank ladder, from NEW to LEGEND.

Conversations are ephemeral — when a session ends, the messages are gone. You never hand over a phone number, an email, or a photo. Is stdout.chat free?+

Yes. The app is free to download and free to chat — matching, messaging, and the rank system cost nothing. Optional in-app credits unlock extra themes and shout broadcasts, but you never need them to talk.

Do I need an account or phone number?+

No. There is no sign-up at all — no phone number, no email, no password. The app creates a random device identity on first launch, you pick a username, and you're online in seconds.

Is there video chat?+

How does interest matching work?+

You choose up to five interests across culture, tech, lifestyle, and sport. The app pairs you with someone who shares at least one of them, and the profile preview shows exactly what you matched on — before you say a word.

Are my conversations saved?+

No. Chats are ephemeral — once a session ends, the messages are gone from our servers. The only exception is a short buffer kept temporarily when someone files a report, so moderation actually works.

Is stdout.chat available on Android?+

Not yet. stdout.chat is currently available for iPhone on the App Store. Android is on the roadmap.
